Logan Lott
I grew up a nomadic, military brat and first came to Juneau in 2003. I opened Tongass Fitness with my friend Ryan Johnson in 2016. My favorite part of coaching is guiding people towards transformation – getting someone to realize how strong they actually are and letting them see their true potential. It’s a magical thing. I have a Bachelor’s in Social Sciences, a Master’s of Arts in Teaching, and I spent a few years both as a paraeducator and teacher.
Kimmy Laboca
I’ve lived in Alaska my whole life & plan to stay for longer to help people pursue a healthy relationship with themselves through exercise, food, and rest. Outside the gym, I’m currently studying to be a dietitian. I believe the beautiful marriage of individualized nutrition and movement can increase your quality of life. I look forward to growing as a coach and helping educate and inspire others to believe that they are capable of being an athlete and seeing them become 1% better each day.
Roy Churchwell
I grew up in Idaho where my parents pursued a back-woods Alaska-like lifestyle. I have been in Alaska for about fourteen years, and originally came up to attend UAF and get my PhD studying the migration of birds. Close to the end of my degree I needed an exercise outlet, and that is when I found functional fitness. The community made the sport so rewarding! Watching your companions improve and get stronger is such a reward, and that is why I started coaching. My goal is to give folks the best hour of their day as they become better people.
Jaimie Rountree
I had an amazing childhood growing up here in Juneau. With so many opportunities for fishing, camping, hiking, and hunting the interest in physical fitness, or being physically fit, started early. There’s something special about the camaraderie you become folded into with Tongass. It’s a very accepting, supportive environment and one that prompted me to take another step in obtaining my coaching certificate in 2018. As a coach I enjoy helping my athletes reach their goals. It doesn’t get much better than watching someone achieve something they’ve been working so hard for.
Remembering Ryan Johnson
Tongass Fitness began as a dream of Ryan’s. Physical fitness had always been a mainstay in Ryan’s life, having been a part of competitive swimming and mountain climbing. As a coach, he could push you like no other. As a friend, he was loyal and outgoing. He had just become a new father to his boy Milo. Ryan lost his life alongside Canadian climber Marc-Andre LeClerc climbing the Mendenhall Towers in 2018. We carry on Ryan’s vision here at Tongass and have a mural dedicated to him as well as an annual, memorial workout.
Your Burning Questions Answered
Is there a minimum level of fitness required to start training?
No. People come to SEAK Fitness to get healthy. We modify the exercises to match your level of fitness. As you gain strength, endurance, and experience you’ll progress to more challenging (but appropriate) movements.
Which class is right for me? WOD classes or Functional Circuit Training?
Either class is a great addition to your fitness, but the two differ in several key aspects. WOD classes have an overall higher intensity level, with higher heartrate workouts and lots of time spent with a barbell. The Functional Circuit classes are of a moderate intensity with lower heartrate and more time spent on muscular hypertrophy. There is also less time spent with barbells and more time spent with dumbbell, kettlebell, resistance band and bodyweight movements. Both classes are conducted by an expert coach and last one hour.
Do I need special clothing or equipment?
Comfortable clothes that allow free range of motion like yoga pants or shorts are always good. Any training/gym/running shoes will suffice. Many of our members find themselves getting a pair of flat-bottomed shoes for squatting eventually. We provide everything else you will need.
Do you have a locker room or shower?
We do not. We have a sizeable restroom that our members have found comfortable changing in.
I'm not sure I want to commit to a full membership quiet yet. Can I just drop in?
[email protected] or call/text us at 907-957-7170.
If you live out of town, the drop in price is $20.
I'm visiting the area. Can I drop in to a class when I'm in town?
You sure can! However we need to know AHEAD OF TIME that you’re planning on coming in. Email us at [email protected] or call/text us at 907-957-7170.
Where are you located and where do I park?
We are located in the midtown Lemon Creek area near Costco. Parking is alongside the gym and not in front of neighboring businesses.
